‘Iron’, by ‘one of Scotland’s brightest dramatists’ (The Times) is a psychological thriller about a woman, serving life for murdering her husband. After sixteen years of estrangement, mother and daughter meet on the impulse of the daughter. Their relationship intensifies as Josie becomes committed to reopening her mother’s case, causing events to take a chilling turn. Set in a prison, this play is a fascinating insight into the effects of incarceration on both prisoners and their families and prejudices we bring to issues of mental health and stability. Director Vanessa Fielding adds:

‘The play shows a woman who crossed the line and is now incarcerated but ‘is no more of a danger to society now than when she went in’. She is still human and capable of powerful maternal feelings, insights and acts of great compassion and self sacrifice. ‘Iron’ challenges our expectations of a murderer and reveals truths that could be about any of us who have ever felt passionately to the point of distraction.’

Vanessa Fielding directs a cast which includes Eileen Pollock, whose many memorable performances for stage, radio and television over the years includes the special highlight of having portrayed the infamous Lilo Lil in the long-running BBC sitcom ‘Bread’, multi-award winning David Gorry (Frank Brady in Pat McCabe’s ‘Frank Pig Says Hello’ for Co-motion Theatre Company, directed by Joe O’Byrne) and Liz FitzGibbon (‘Emma’ in Fair City). The design team is comprised of Keith Ward (Set Design) and award-winning Lighting Designer Nick McCall with Sound Design by Eoin Ryan.
Munro’s previous stage work includes ‘Your Turn to Clean the Stair’, ‘Bold Girls’, ‘The Maiden Stone’ and ‘Snake’. Her work for film and television includes Ken Loach’s ‘Ladybird Ladybird’ and the Golden Globe-nominated ‘Aimée and Jaguar’.
