The Gaiety School Advanced Performance Group present The Showcase

Monday 28th -Wednesday 30th March
8pm
Tickets: €8

Students from the Gaiety School of Acting, Advanced Performance Group will present 3 different productions over 3 days at the Complex.

Monday 28th- The Works of Oscar Wilde

A showcase featuring the plays of Oscar Wilde has given the group a common focus while allowing them to explore their individual scenes. Using both duologues and group scenes the students have enjoyed developing these to reflect contemporary settings breaking away from the perceived ideas of how Wilde’s work ‘should’ be performed.

Tuesday 29th- Career Move

17 students have been divided in three smaller groups; one all male, one all female and one mixed. Each group will take to the stage to present their own 20 minute adaptation of the Martin Amis short story ‘Career Move’. Career Move  inverts the  literary world; screenplay writers such as Alistair struggle to have their work published in small magazines, whilst poets such as Luke are courted by publishing conglomerates and fly first- class around the world.

Wednesday  30th- Oleanna

David Mamet’s powerful drama ‘Oleanna’ is a study of political correctness, miscommunication, pedagogy, modern education and sexual assult. This pressure-cooker two-hander brings John, a young college professor, head-to-head with Carol, a struggling student. Kirstian Marken’s Advanced Performance Class boldly takes on this incendiary play with a cast of twenty instead of the usual two. This unorthodox treatment has created a balanced provocation that is certain to have the audience arguing it’s message for some time.
