‘F.A.T. D.A.D.’

Presented by The Complex

Previews 13th/14th February. Opens on Thursday 15th February and runs until 25th February 2018 at 8 pm

A new production of ‘F.A.T. D.A.D.’ from the Complex team who created the hits ‘GREEN’ (nominated for best new play 1996) ‘COMPLEXITY’ (2009) and ‘ON THE BATTER’ (2011), written by Anthony Goulding, a playwright from the north west inner city of Dublin.  It will be directed by Artistic Director Vanessa Fielding, founder and creator of The Complex.

‘F.A.T. D.A.D.’ is a play about a teacher, and the effects of his teaching on boys from the north west inner city. It is inspired by true events. His beliefs were deeply nationalistic, irreverent to the curriculum and advocating independent thought. He went on hunger strike with Bobby Sands and as his Republican allegiances became overt, the establishment shunned him, rendering him penniless and ultimately homeless. FAT DAD are the initials of the Northern Counties, and a synonym for his role in the lives of these young men.

The Complex is the new Live Arts Centre in the North Inner City. Originally set in the empty units of Smithfield Square, its ethos has been to make accessible, socially engaged, immersive work, attracting diverse, modern, and local audiences. It works across the arts disciplines, embracing the work of visiting artists, resident artists and studio artists based in its centre in a curated programme of mixed arts.

The Complex is a team of artists who have been working in Dublin 7 since 1996 and who are multi-disciplinary, committed to initiating new original projects, focusing on work with a social value, with something current and meaningful to say, reflecting the edgy, raw part of the city it is in. Next year it will partner with Thisispopbaby and St Patrick’s Festival to make a piece with the High Hopes Community for ‘Where We Live’ and later, The Abbey Theatre to present ‘Browbeating’ with the support of Dublin City Council.

Tickets for ‘F.A.T. D.A.D.’ can be purchased online at at a cost of €18/ €15 concession, groups of 10 or over @ €12. Previews €10.
