To mark the centenary of 1916, Complex Youth Theatre members embarked on a task to source objects of historical importance of that year, with the objective to create an original play. Many objects were found on-line, through newspaper articles and photographs of the period. Some young people researched stories from distant relatives who fought during 1916 and had kept secret diaries to record their actions. All objects found had political, historical and social relevance to the group and through theatre techniques and improvisation they developed, “16 Objects”, a homage to the past told in a modern context.

The play takes place before, during and after the Easter Rising and we witness the events that left a lasting legacy on the ordinary people of Dublin and beyond and changed the course of Irish history.
