New Music Dublin is Ireland’s foremost contemporary music festival, taking place in Spring each year. As part of its 2025 programme The Complex will be hosting a series of performances and concerts in association with IMC
BAN BAN
3rd April 9PM @ The Depot
Founded in 2020 to showcase and support the contributions of female and gender-diverse composers in jazz and improvised music in Ireland, BAN BAM is a commissioning and development award from Improvised Music Company. This programme celebrates the 2025 recipients, composers Joanna Mattrey and Christine Tobin, featuring world premieres of their latest compositions.
CÓRAS TRIO
3rd April 10.45PM @ The Cooler
The Córas Trio reimagines the art of spontaneity. Deconstructed Irish traditional melodies unfold through ethereal, captivating textures, where fiddle, guitar, and percussion are elevated by transcendent electronics, blending collective improvisation with the lively spirit of seisiún-style playfulness.
ALL EARTH ONCE DROWNED
4th April @ 9PM @ The Depot
Composer Ed Bennett presents a fresh incarnation of his renowned Decibel Ensemble for the premiere of new commission All Earth Once Drowned, to texts by poet Cherry Smyth.
IN THE DARK
4th April @10.45PM @ The Cooler
In the Dark pairs improvising musicians from across New Music Dublin’s programme for a journey into intuition, listening, and spontaneity. The catch? Neither the musicians nor the audience know who’s performing.
