The Complex, in collaboration with Mirror Lamp Press, is thrilled to share a unique literary response by our writer-in-residence, Julie Morrissy, created for the exhibition Waystation. This graduate showcase from the MA Fine Art at TU Dublin (2024) transformed the gallery into a conceptual rest-stop—a space where artistic worlds collide, pause, and prepare for new journeys.

Morrissy’s response is not only deeply engaging in its exploration of Waystation’s themes—archival practices, queer fictions, and moments of temporal flux—but also striking in its presentation. The text itself is formatted in the shape of the gallery map, visually echoing the exhibition’s immersive qualities and the intricate interplay between art and space.

As writer-in-residence, Morrissy had the opportunity to work closely with The Complex team and Mirror Lamp Press editors, crafting this response as part of an initiative to foster critical voices in visual arts writing. Supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, the residency invites writers to interpret and respond to the dynamic activities of The Complex, sharing their work with wider audiences.

We invite you to explore Morrissy’s creative response on Mirror Lamp Press, where her piece brings a literary lens to Waystation's vibrant themes of transformation and collaboration.
