The Black Guelph, a Dublin-set crime drama directed by John Connors (Love/Hate, Cardboard Gangsters) will be screened at The Complex on 20 December.
Co-written by Connors and Tiernan Williams, the film had its premiere at Oldenberg Film Festival in Germany where it won Best Film and Best Actor for Graham Earley.
The film tells the story of Kanto, a small-time drug dealer attempting to get off the streets of inner-city Dublin, when his long-absent father Cormac - an industrial school survivor - returns seeking reconciliation and forgiveness.
Boasting an ensemble cast including talents like Denise McCormack and Graham Earley as well as Connors himself, The Black Guelph touches on vital issues often ignored in mainstream cinema.
The screening will be followed by an hour-long open discussion guided by Connors and Williams and will offer the audience the opportunity to engage more deeply with the story's themes. At the same time, Williams, an integrative psychotherapist, will provide a professional perspective on the issues depicted in the film.
