On the 20th of September, National Traveller Pride 2021 was officially launched, kicking off a fortnight long calendar of events to promote pride within the Travelling Community.
The theme for this year’s Traveller Pride is ‘Stronger Together’, celebrating how Travellers have supported one another throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic.
On Thursday the 16th of September, we filmed an event for Local Traveller Pride in The Ground Floor Gallery at The Complex. We were joined by Catherine Joyce from Blanchardstown Traveller Development Group, poet Helen Hutchinson and actor Michael Collins.
We spent the day shooting plays and poems, culminating in an informative panel discussion with Catherine, Helen, and Michael, chaired by Artistic Director of The Complex, Vanessa Fielding.
The event is a celebration of Traveller culture and reflects the diversity of experience felt by members of the community.
To mark Local Traveller Pride Week beginning on Monday the 27th, the event will be launched on The Blanchardstown Traveller Development Group’s Website, and on The Complex’s social channels.
This project was supported by The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.
